The 2026 Mobile Security Crisis

73% of UK Organisations Breached via Mobile Devices in the past year

New research from 150 UK cybersecurity leaders reveals rising mobile threats, widespread BYOD risk, and why 85% are prioritising mobile security this year.

Mobile devices have become one of the most significant and unprotected attack surfaces in modern organisations. New research surveying 150 UK cybersecurity leaders – including CISOs, CIOs, and CTOs – reveals that nearly three-quarters (73%) of organisations experienced a breach linked to a mobile device in the past year alone. With 47% experiencing breaches from malicious apps, 42% from mobile phishing, 34% from WiFi threats and 18% from vulnerable devices; the findings highlight a rapidly evolving threat landscape.

These risks are further complicated by:

  1. widespread usage of personal mobiles to access company data as 89% of organisations have insecure Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) mobiles; &
  2. difficulty securing mobiles as the top challenge for implementing mobile security is around the user/employee impact of solutions:
    • 80% of Leaders mention concerns around Impact on mobile device performance or battery life; Impact on employee experience or productivity; and/or Data privacy or employee monitoring concerns.
    • Operational/technical concerns are the second most common with 61% seeing complexity of deployment or integration with existing systems; and/or overlap with existing security tools.
    • Followed closely in third place with 58% reporting cost or budget constraints; and/or Lack of internal skills or resources to manage an Mobile Threat Defence (MTD) solution. Twice as many organisations with an MTD solution report lack of internal skills to manage mobile security compared to those without. This further validates the importance of choosing the right MTD solution that’s manageable for the organisation and/or embracing a managed MTD service for balancing mobile security with mobile user productivity.

As a result, 85% of leaders now rank improving mobile security as a high or critical priority for the year ahead.
